Baloney in Our Slacks: The Impending Animaniacs Reboot
Like so many other vintage TV shows, it’s time for Animaniacs…again. Please don’t screw this up.
It’s a well-known fact that any media we watched, read, listened to or otherwise ingested in our formative youthful years is sacred. Even when a more critical analysis of this content occurs in adulthood, we would still rather shield it from scorn or criticism and remember it as it seemed in its glorified state when we first encountered it.
This is what makes the idea of a reboot so enticing and yet so dangerous. We want to bring back those good feelings and return to the worlds we once knew. But we want them to be as they were when we left them — a nearly impossible feat when decades have elapsed.
The list of rebooted properties from my childhood continues to grow each year, as the originals get smaller in the rearview mirror — Full House, Boy Meets World, Gilmore Girls, Star Wars, Muppet Babies, regular Muppets, Roseanne, Murphy Brown, Will & Grace, X-Files, MacGyver, Duck Tales, Animaniacs and more.
